Bounty Killer:

Artiste – Dancehall DJ

Listen to an audio interview with Bounty Killer:

Bounty Killer has his personal ties to sound owners in Jamaica and has recorded plenty of dubs for these sounds on a friendship basis. At one point in time for outside sounds Bounty Killer was able to earn (US)$1,000 per tune. People paid the price and waited in line to record their tunes.

One sound recorded a single tune called “21 Bounties” so that they could cover all the Bounty Killer tunes up to that point in time and eliminate any response by the competing sound – they won that clash. Mighty Crown even won World Clash with their version of “Look,” just as the tune was being released. Many heard the lyrics for the first time at World Clash or on tapes from the clash. The demand for these dubs is promoted through Bounty’s pattern of hit tunes from “Hey Baby” to “Eagle and The Hawk” to “Sufferer” to “Lodge.” There are just too many more big tunes to list from Bounty.

Bounty may be seen by some as a robin hood or a villain, but if he’s not, he surely associates himself with bad men. The lyrics of his songs support the bad man culture and also appeal to a wide range of listeners.

Much of Bounty’s momentum has been built from conflict and competition with other artistes. Early on it was clashes with Beenie Man or Merciless at Boxing Day’s Sting. Most recently it has been disagreement with the management of rock group No Doubt over content in the video of “Hey Baby” and reported nonpayment of royalties for the hit song. Bounty has refused to appear with No Doubt at the Billboard Magazine award ceremonies and at the VH1 cable television awards program.

Bounty has severely damaged artistes like Beenie Man and Merciless, but he has also wrangled with very credible artistes like Sizzla and Junior Reid. Whether of not conflict can increase record sales and revenue from stage shows, challenging credible artistes can result in worries. Bounty Killer is not going to run from a fight and frequently he is provoking the argument. That is Bounty Killer – he is not a bounty hunter, he is a bounty killer.
